Water Absorption Analysis

We are delighted to announce that we are now offering water absorption analysis.

This method is used to determine if an asbestos containing flat sheet is cement or insulating board. This allows us to determine whether the material is licensable or not, on behalf of the client.

In order to measure the water absorption of a board, the sample must be a minimum of 9cm2 and be the whole depth of the material.

The sample is analysed using gravimetric analysis in accordance with HSG248 Asbestos: The Analysts’ Guide 2016 (Draft).

We are excited to be taking the next step in developing our UKAS accredited Laboratory. Lab Manager Lynne Scott said “Our clients often ask what material the board is made of. While our experienced analysts can usually give an educated opinion, in some instances, the only way to determine the material is by water absorption.

We previously sent the samples elsewhere for this analysis which led to an increased turnaround time for our clients. As time is often at a premium when organising asbestos removal work, it therefore made sense to provide this service to run alongside our established bulk analysis facility.”.
