Running in Support of Mesothelioma UK

On the 17th of March, Casa is running the Bath Half Marathon in support of Mesothelioma UK.
Mesothelioma UK is a national charity dedicated to supporting individuals with mesothelioma to live longer, and to prevent mesothelioma from happening to future generations.

What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is also known as ‘asbestos cancer’. In the UK, over 2,700 people per year are diagnosed with this type of cancer. Exposure to asbestos is responsible for up to 9/10 cases of mesothelioma and it is more common in men than women. Nearly half of the people diagnosed with this disease are over 75 years old.

Mesothelioma UK

Established in 2004 as a Macmillan Resource Center in Leicester, Mesothelioma UK has seen significant growth and improved the lives of thousands of individuals, following becoming an Independent Charitable Trust in 2008 and a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2018.
Since the beginning, Mesothelioma UK’s focus has been on providing access to specialist nurses to hospitals throughout the UK. Nurses that specialise In Mesothelioma are essential, and provide a number of benefits, including; specialist expertise available to patients, increased access to clinical trials, an increase in the number of patients accessing treatment, a lower rate of unplanned admissions, better management of symptoms and an overall increase in the quality of life for patients.
The Charity also provides several other services to all individuals affected by mesothelioma. They have a Freephone Support Line, a dedicated research centre at Sheffield University and a comprehensive information service accredited by the Patient Information Forum. The charity also provides a travel grant to support the cost of accessing clinical trials.
