Asbestos Surveying & Consultancy

Casa Environmental Services have been regularly carrying out asbestos surveys for Cheltenham College since 2016. The surveys have varied between Management, Reinspection, Sampling and Refurbishment Surveys; suiting the requirements of the College and assisting them with complying with their obligations under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

The independent school occupies a large site, of approximately 72 acres, in a central location in the Regency town of Cheltenham. The College was originally founded in 1841 as a school for boys although it is now fully coeducational. The college has approximately 640 pupils, the majority of whom are boarders.

During the summer holiday break of 2019, Casa were once again commissioned by Cheltenham College to undertake a number of surveys to buildings located on the large campus.

Six of the surveys consisted of sampling surveys to specific client specified materials within the buildings. This allowed the client to manage the materials and deal with them appropriately, should it be necessary to carry out remediation works.

The inspection of the seventh building consisted of a Management Survey of Newick House, a large four storey student accommodation block.

The survey was undertaken by Lead Surveyor, Dan Road, and took 7 days to complete. During the course of the survey, asbestos based materials were located throughout and consisted mainly of asbestos insulation board and thermal insulation. The outcomes of the survey has helped to inform the College’s asbestos management system, for their ongoing systematic control and management of asbestos containing materials.

In recent years the College has invested millions in renovations and new facilities. The libraries, theatre, and art and design centre have been upgraded as well as the science and technology centres. Casa were delighted to be a part of the renovations to provide the pupils with exceptional new learning facilities.
