Casa Environmental’s Cornwall branch recently undertook a Refurbishment Survey to the offices of Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE)’s in Exeter, Devon prior to a comprehensive refurbishment and decoration.

SAFE are a charity offering trauma led support and therapeutic recovery services to victims of Domestic Abuse. They are supported by one of Casa Environmental’s key clients, Kier Construction.

As such our surveying services were offered free of charge to Kier in order to assist in supporting SAFE, who provide vital services to individuals and families in Exeter and the surrounding areas.

The offices in Exeter comprise of a circa 1950’s single storey building. It is constructed of concrete panels with a pitched asbestos corrugated cement roof providing office, counselling and welfare facilities over an approximate area of 100 square metres.

During the survey, nine incidences of asbestos based materials were discovered both internally and externally. These ACM’s were in the form of asbestos insulating board, asbestos cement moulded products and composites such as toilet cisterns.

The survey information will facilitate Kier in safely undertaking the proposed refurbishment and provide them with the opportunity of either removal or management of the ACM’s.

It has created two extra counselling rooms which means we can significantly expand our 1:1 counselling service’s. These were oversubscribed with waiting lists, so this is brilliant news for our service users. The refurbishment has also included making the building wheelchair user friendly.”
