Asbestos Survey

Casa Environmental Services’ Surveyors were sent to prison in December 2018 and January 2019. Fortunately this was not as a result of any criminal activity, but to undertake refurbishment surveys to facilitate proposed re-roofing works.

Mace Group Ltd, required the surveys at HMP Channings Wood and HMP Dartmoor prior to the re-roofing of specific buildings within each prison.

The surveys were undertaken using mobile elevated platforms to gain access to higher levels of the affected buildings. Careful planning was necessary to ensure security, and the day to day running of the establishments were not disrupted.

Not unexpectedly, the majority of asbestos based materials discovered were in the form of asbestos cement flat and moulded sheet products. Asbestos insulation was also found in one roof void at Dartmoor Prison.

Project Manager for Mace, Selwyn Fisher said “The Cornwall team have been outstanding in their approach to our (Mace) asbestos survey requirements and have ensured timely delivery of the reports.

One great benefit is that CASA Ltd have their own laboratory which enables a quicker turnaround from carrying out the surveys to issuing the results.”
