Asbestos Survey
Casa Environmental Services recently undertook a Refurbishment Survey to the Haymarket Theatre in the centre of Basingstoke to facilitate the installation of new fire alarm and speaker systems.
The theatre, which was originally constructed in 1865 as the towns Corn Exchange , has had a varied and interesting history.
It was used as a roller skating rink from 1910 until 1913 when it had a marble floor and the interior was completely destroyed by fire in 1925 which was ironic as the towns fire engine was kept in the basement.
The theatre was last remodelled in 1992 making it more modern and the 380 seat venue now stages plays, music, comedy and children’s shows.
Casa’s Southampton branch were tasked with carrying out the survey and surveyors Jake Kelly and Jamie Dublin undertook a thorough survey over the course of 3 days during which 11 samples of suspect materials were taken for analysis.
None of the samples proved to contain asbestos and this is perhaps a reflection of the fact that the Theatre has been the subject of a number of extensive refurbishment works over the years.
