Failure to Manage Asbestos

A furniture manufacturing company in Newcastle upon Tyne have been fined for failing to manage the asbestos found in a 2003 survey.

Unfortunately it is still very common for contractors to neglect the importance of an asbestos survey and the necessary precautions that should be taken afterwards. There are a number of options following the identification of asbestos.

There is a duty to manage the asbestos via a management plan or alternatively removal of the asbestos.

The company was found guilty of of breaching Section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and regulation 4(8) of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. https://goo.gl/b6QNvG
