Refurbishment Survey
Our Bristol Branch recently attended the Intertek laboratory within the Rolls-Royce site in Filton, Bristol, to conduct an Asbestos Refurbishment survey to a laboratory test furnace. This furnace was built in early 1980s, meaning Intertek had a legal requirement to maintain a record as to whether this item contained asbestos. The use of asbestos wasn’t banned in full until 1999, therefore it is always essential to ensure that anything built or made prior to this is surveyed by an expert to ensure its safety and the safety of all employees.
Our surveyor took three samples from the furnace for analysis in Casa’s Bristol laboratory of a variety of different materials. Thankfully, these all tested negative for asbestos.
The Rolls-Royce site in Bristol used to be situated just across the road, before they built the new facility that Casa attended. The furnace that the refurbishment survey was conducted on was transferred from the old location to the Intertek laboratory in the new one. This acts as a poignant reminder that even though a building may be and safe from asbestos, it can still contain items that are at risk of containing asbestos, and therefore require a survey to determine whether it poses a risk to ensure both safety and compliance.
