Asbestos SMART
Asbestos SMART is a simple, easy to use technological solution which gives visiting contractors and key on site personnel immediate access to the latest asbestos register, just by using their mobile phone or smart mobile device.
Every UKNAR registered building enrolled into the Asbestos SMART system is issued with a unique QR code. The QR code presented can be incorporated into a sign and can be tailored to the organisation’s individual requirements.
When the QR code is scanned using a smartphone or smart mobile device, the user downloads a copy of the asbestos register which then allows them to locate any previously identified asbestos containing materials (ACMs).
This allows users to understand whether it is safe to proceed with their visit and their work without disturbing ACMs. The whole process can be completed on site in seconds.

Asbestos SMART register
Every tradesperson needs to see an asbestos register when they arrive on-site at managed premises before they start work. You can help to register the danger by asking if the site has an Asbestos SMART register. It is the duty holder’s responsibility to ensure all contractors and building occupiers are informed of the presence of asbestos if their activities could be likely to cause any disturbance. However, ultimately it is your responsibility to protect yourselves – by asking for that register!
About UKNAR
UK National Asbestos Register (UKNAR) CIC is a new social enterprise established to help management and dutyholders manage asbestos simply and safely while better informing and educating those people who may be at risk.
UKNAR’s primary aim is to protect people from unnecessary and potentially deadly exposure to asbestos fibres. Hundreds of thousands of UK workplaces, public buildings, schools, hospitals and homes still contain asbestos and despite improved legislation, there are still many thousands of accidental exposures to asbestos every year.
UKNAR believe that by using inexpensive, easy to use technology and working with like-minded people, leading asbestos support organisations and research charities, we can limit future accidental asbestos exposures and help prevent thousands of deaths occurring as a result of asbestos-related diseases.
