ACMs Found in Lift Switchgear

Casa Environmental were recently instructed to undertake a refurbishment survey to a 4 Storey Georgian townhouse in the World Heritage Site of Bath.

The building, currently comprising of one dwelling was due to be turned back into its original condition of two dwellings.

During the survey over sixty incidences of asbestos based materials were located in the form of Insulating Board, Bitumen, Floor Tiles, Cement and Textiles amongst others.

Most interestingly the very old electrical switchgear for the lift had four different ACMs in the form of seals ,flash guards and insulating board. A plaque on the lift car stated that the lift manufacturer was “By Appointment to His Majesty King George 6th”.

King George 6th  reigned from 1936 until his death in 1952 so the presence of asbestos was proof of its widespread use during the Thirties and Forties.
