Accredited Asbestos Training Courses in UK – Finding the Best Asbestos Awareness Training Near You

Who Needs Asbestos Awareness Training?

Asbestos awareness training is a legal requirement for anyone who might come into contact with asbestos during their working lives. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 states that training is mandatory for anyone liable to be exposed to asbestos fibres at work. This applies to construction workers, caretakers, maintenance staff and anyone else working in a building that contains asbestos containing materials (ACMs) as well as those involved in asbestos removal work.

Any building which was either built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. It is therefore imperative that all employees who work in an affected building have a basic understanding of asbestos as the risks associated with it can be fatal.

It’s important to note that asbestos awareness training isn’t adequate if you are intending to carry out any work on ACMs as more in-depth training will be required.

What is Asbestos Awareness Training?

Asbestos awareness training is the most basic level of asbestos training. The purpose of the course is to help workers identify where they are likely to find asbestos, understand the risks it poses and understand what to do if they find or suspect it is present. It helps workers know how to avoid accidental asbestos disturbance and protect themselves.

During the course you’ll learn all about asbestos, a durable and resistant material which was used extensively in the construction industry pre-2000, but has since been discovered to cause a range of deadly diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer. You’ll be informed about the different types of asbestos, provided with information on current legislation and learn how to work safely when ACMs may be present.

Asbestos Awareness Training Renewal

It’s important that rather than treating awareness training as a one-off, you refresh your knowledge every year. Asbestos is known as the hidden killer for a reason – you can’t smell or see it and you don’t get an instant reaction when you’re exposed to it (it takes years for the consequences to appear). By attending annual training and keeping knowledge fresh awareness can be kept high and the risks will be kept at the forefront of your mind.

Annual refresher training also ensures all operatives are aware of any changes in regulations, best practice and new techniques.

For more information on the UKATA asbestos awareness renewal training we can provide at Casa Environmental Services, please contact our team today. The exact content of the training course can be tailored to your specific requirements.
